The Excecutive Speech and Copywriter Specialist is responsible for enhancing the communication of CHRISTUS Health and engaging its Associates by working closely with the Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs, Excecutive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, President and CEO and CEO Cabinet executives.


The Specialist will serve as the primary speechwriter for the CHRISTUS president and CEO, and will be responsible for understanding the effects of system-wide changes on internal stakeholders and groups and designing communication strategy, plans and materials to address these changes. This includes storytelling across a variety of media such as developing written speeches, briefings and other compelling communications for executives that influence beliefs and behaviors both inside and outside the organization. The Specialist will also create captivating and dynamic visual presentations to support written speeches that accurately communicate ideas and share an impactful story.

The Specialist must understand health care and business strategy and industry trends and be able to translate current orgnizational decisions, changes or areas of focus within these trends in a way that is understandable to a variety of audiences.

The Specialist will also write compelling and creative content for Marketing and Communications materials, including flyers, brochures, annual campaigns (Hospital Week, Nurses' Week, Doctors' Day, etc.), and events (NICU reunions, Associate anniversary celebrations, etc.).


The Specialist may also draft strategy for and communication materials to disseminate information regarding other change initiatives and internal projects, such as technology and process upgrades and department-specific changes. The Specialist also prepares and distributes communications for key internal and external constituencies, including speeches, PowerPoint slides, editorials, newsletter articles, emails, internal memos and bulletins, blog posts, and more.

The Specialist is in a position to interface daily with various publics and constituents, including senior leadership at the system and regional levels, Communications Council, physicians, community and political leaders and CHRISTUS Associates. The Specialist will be privy to and responsible for protecting the integrity of confidential corporate information, including strategic plans, financial information, risk management situations and patient information. The Specialist is called upon to make significant judgments calls in relation to materials prepared for Associates and external audiences that represent CHRISTUS positively and consistently.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

-- Serve as primary speechwriter for CEO and other members of the CEO Cabinet, developing written speeches, briefings and other compelling communications for executives that influence beliefs and behaviors both inside and outside the organization.

-- Create captivating and dynamic visual presentations to support written speeches that accurately communicate ideas and share an impactful story.

-- Translates the organization's ideas, objectives, corporate position, and management philosophy into messaging that relates to the topic, speaker, and intended audience.

-- Work with Cabinet Executives to socialize change and develop excitement within the organization about regular updates as well as future direction.

-- Craft compelling and creative content for Marketing and Communications materials, including, but not limited to, flyers, brochures, annual campaigns (Hospital Week, Nurses' Week, Doctors' Day, etc.), and events (NICU reunions, Associate anniversary celebrations, etc.).

-- Write and edit a variety of internal and external communications, including but not limited to: speeches, PowerPoint slides, editorials, newsletter articles, emails, internal memos and bulletins, blog posts, and more.

-- Work collaboratively with members of the system Communications team and CHRISTUS Marketing/Communications Council to ensure that relevant content is disseminated effectively through appropriate system communication channels.

-- Help enhance internal communications to improve messaging, clarity and consistency across CHRISTUS.

-- Represent the system communications function on various internal committees and task forces, as requested.

-- Manage and maintain vendor relationships, as appropriate to responsibilities.

Requirements


A. Education/Skills



  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field required.
  • Experience working with diverse Associate groups and strong verbal and written communications skills to effectively reach a variety of audiences. Must have a temperament conducive to being part of a results-oriented team.
  • Strong visual communications skills, including creation of PowerPoint presentations or other dynamic visual speech aids.
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods of time, including word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, social media and various graphics and video programs.
  • Ability to work extended hours on occasion, including some weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Ability to work with little supervision, set priorities, create schedules and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work rapidly, under pressure, and with frequent interruptions.


    Experience



    • 5-7 years of experience in communications, speech writing, public relations, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

    • Experience in a health care setting is preferred, but not required.
