Job DetailsBaylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas is
seeking a qualified Director of Preop/PACU/PAT. - -Directs,
coordinates and controls the multi-disciplinary activities for
patients undergoing surgical intervention and recovery in a safe
environment. Responsible for the interpretation, direction, and
evaluation of nursing practice to promote safe, efficient, and
therapeutically effective nursing care throughout the Pre-op, PACU
and PAT areas. Demonstrates the primary goal of providing surgical
and recovery care services that exceed customer expectations and
improve clinical and financial operations. Serves as a leader and
role model for the clinical staff. Makes decisions regarding direct
patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to
other team members. Helps maintain equipment, supplies, and
cleanliness of unit as a whole. May have additional
responsibilities as designed by the Chief Nursing Officer, which
include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other
departments (after being oriented and educated), serving on
committees, participating in quality improvement audits, and
projects. -
- Formulates and implements nursing philosophy and objectives
consistent with the stated goals of the Center.
- Assists in developing policies, procedures, and staffing
essential to the achievement of the philosophy and objectives of
the Center. Reviews and revises these in collaboration with the
Administrator, the nursing staff and the professional staff,
keeping up to date on current trends in nursing practice and
patient care.
- Evaluates programs and patient care activities.
- Ensures continued compliance with government regulatory
agencies, i.e. HIPPA, the facilities accrediting organizational
standards, and Joint Commission. -
- Assures documentation of patient care meets criteria dictated
by legal practice, state, and federal health standards. -
- Develops an organizational structure, assigning
responsibilities and delegating authority that shall facilitate
safe, effective, and efficient care for the patient. -
- Provides leadership and support in developing and maintaining
effective relationships with the center staff and the medical
staff.
- Establishes, maintains, analyzes, and evaluates standards of
nursing care within the Pre-op, PACU and PAT areas in compliance
with professional nursing standards.
- Prepares weekly and monthly nursing schedules.
- Collaborates on standards of performance with the ancillary
support services.
- Recruits, retains, evaluates, and supervises Pre-Op, PACU and
PAT nursing personnel. -
- Maintains awareness of professional issues at the local, state,
and national levels that impact the delivery of nursing services
and health care management.
- Initiates and / or supports activities to control costs.
- Makes recommendations for medical supplies and equipment
purchases to the leadership based on the evaluation of new or
improved products. -
- Assists with quarterly inventory, including counting.
- Delegates administrative responsibilities to another staff R.N.
in his / her absence with notification to the Chief Nursing
Officer.
- Provides guidance, counseling, and support as needed to the
Pre-OP, PACU and PAT nursing staff.
- Provides and supervises nursing orientation programs and staff
development as needed.
- Reduces chance of nosocomial infection by directing attention
to infection control and environmental safety practices.
- Supervises collection of all required records and reports.
- Holds individual employees accountable for assigned
responsibilities, individual goals, and performance expectations
through annual performance evaluations and conferences.
- Serves on the facility Quality Improvement Committee with
regard to issues concerning nursing practice.
- Establishes, maintains, and evaluates quality control studies
within the Pre-operative, PACU and PAT areas in collaboration with
the Chief Nursing Officer to improve the services these departments
provide to others.
- Assists with environmental hazard and infection control
surveillance, and participates in emergency preparedness
drills.
- Implements safe practices, and provides knowledgeable guidance
and evaluation of the environment of care management including life
safety (fire prevention), security, hazardous materials and waste
management, emergency preparedness, infection control, and the safe
use of medical equipment and utilities.
- Identifies areas that require additional reinforcement through
education, consultation, or practicum.
- Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and
confidentiality per policy and HIPPA regulations.
- Follows the Center's professional code of conduct and dress
code policy.
- Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors
physicians and their office staffs, patients, and employees.
- Attends all mandatory in-services and meetings.
- Attends annual Safety and Competency education session.
- Assists the leadership as needed in the process of privileging
and reappointing physician practitioners and their assistants.
- Maintains the records and files for contract personnel.
- Assists with review and revision of the policies and procedures
at the Center.
- Serves as member of committee that oversees preparations for
inspections for compliance and accreditation. -
- Assists in the development, monitoring, and control of the
staff, operations, and capital budgets.
- Works closely with the Chief Nursing Officer and Materials
Manager to monitor and control the purchasing plan to stay within
the proposed budget.
- Responsibilities for Pre-Op, PACU and PAT staff include;
orientation, training, evaluation, and assisting HR with
maintenance of employee files. -Baylor Scott & White Surgical

Required Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Minimum 2 year experience in a peri-operative, or ICU, PAT
hospital setting
- 2 years management experience
- BSN or BA preferred
- Current Texas Nursing License
- Current CPR, ACLS, PALS
- Excellent communication skills
- Good Organization habits
- Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base
relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical
patient
