position focuses on managing a team dedicated to deploying
analytics use cases and ensuring that Operations and Performance
Improvement (OPI) initiatives are effectively sized, prioritized,
and developed across different trading desks. The role involves a
mix of strategic oversight and hands-on involvement in use case
development and trading activities, with a strong emphasis on
delivering profitable outcomes and enhancing market insights.Key
Accountabilities
- Lead a team of trading and analytics professionals, fostering a
collaborative, high-performance culture, and development of a
"center of excellence" within the organization.
- Ensure that team projects are aligned with business priorities
as well as internal standards.
- Manage and prioritize team resources in line with Commercial
team priorities and strategic goals.
- "Hands on approach" contributing to use case ideation and
deployment when needed.
- OPI Engine:
- Oversee identification, sizing, and prioritization of OPI
initiatives to maximize trading desk value capture.
- Continuously monitor and refine processes to enhance trading
performance and risk management.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with
organizational goals.
- Communicate complex analytical insights in a clear and
actionable manner to Commercial leadership.
- Support cross-functional projects that enhance the overall
trading capabilities of VST.
- Market Expertise:
- Stay current with market trends, regulatory changes, and
technological advancements in the energy trading sector.
- Provide expert insights and strategic recommendations based on
market analysis and data-driven findings.
- Lead efforts to enhance the organization's understanding of
market dynamics and their impact on trading strategies.Education,
Experience & Skill Requirements
- 7 + years of work experience in finance, economics,
engineering, data science, or related field.
- 5+ years of work experience in the energy trading sector with a
strong background in analytics, data science, or software
development.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) are highly
desirable.
- Proven experience in managing and developing high-performing
teams.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills,
with the ability to manage multiple projects and shifting
priorities effectively.
- Deep expertise in energy markets, including a strong
familiarity with trading commodities and interpreting market,
credit, and operational risks across multiple commodities and
assets. Demonstrated commitment to staying updated with market
trends and developments.
- Experience gained through college degree programs and/or
certifications is applicable to the above requirements.Key Metrics
- Successful deployment of analytics use cases that lead to
measurable improvements in trading performance.
- Achievement of targeted P&L outcomes through strategic
trading and operational enhancements.
- High team engagement and development, reflected in performance
reviews and project outcomes.
- Effective communication and collaboration with internal
stakeholders, leading to improved decision-making and strategy
