Job Description Lab Director Overview We are seeking an experienced Lab Director to lead and oversee a high?volume, multi?disciplinary commercial laboratory operation in the Dallas area. This role is a key leadership position reporting directly to the C?suite and is responsible for operational performance, culture, and continuous improvement across the clinical, molecular, microbiology, and histology laboratories, as well as pre analytics. Our client seeks someone who combines strong people leadership with a data?driven, process?oriented mindset and experience in a commercial laboratory environment . Reporting & Scope Reports directly to the C?suite Leads 6–8 direct reports (department managers/supervisors) Oversees approximately 125 total FTEs across lab and phlebotomy operations Provides leadership across multiple departments and shifts Operational Leadership Oversee day?to?day operations of: Clinical Laboratory Molecular Diagnostics Microbiology Histology Phlebotomy Ensure effective coverage across 1–3 shifts , depending on department Periodically work on off?shifts as needed to support teams and ensure operational consistency Partner with department leaders to maintain quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance Drive process improvement initiatives with a strong emphasis on automation and scalability Pathologist Interface Serve as a primary point of contact for pathologists , ensuring concerns and feedback are appropriately addressed Act as an escalation point when issues extend beyond individual department leadership Support collaboration between pathologists, histotechs, and department leaders to maintain high standards for slide quality and technical performance Culture & People Leadership Serve as the culture leader for the laboratory Train, develop, and mentor department managers and supervisors Set expectations for accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement Build strong relationships with leaders and staff across all departments Foster a collaborative, performance?driven environment Data, Analytics & Process Improvement Establish and monitor KPIs and operational metrics across the lab Use data and analytics to drive decision?making and prioritize improvements Gain a deep understanding of existing processes, identify gaps, and implement solutions Present findings, recommendations, and improvement plans to executive leadership First 90?Day Priorities Establish credibility and set the tone for the laboratory Build strong relationships with leadership and frontline employees Implement or refine key analytics and performance metrics Develop a clear understanding of lab workflows and operational bottlenecks Prioritize improvement opportunities and present a forward?looking plan to leadership Qualifications Proven leadership experience in a commercial laboratory setting (required) Experience overseeing multi?disciplinary lab operations Strong people leadership with a track record of developing managers and supervisors Highly data?driven with experience using KPIs to guide decisions Process?oriented mindset; automation experience is a strong plus Comfortable interacting with pathologists and senior leadership Compensation & Location Base salary: Midpoint around $150,000 , plus bonus Location: Dallas, Texas This role is ideal for a hands?on lab leader who thrives in a commercial environment, values culture and accountability, and is motivated to drive measurable operational improvements.
