We are looking for someone with a passion for leading coding & data teams to join the Microsoft Commercial Software Engineering (CSE) Americas team. CSE is an industry-leading software engineering team that enables high-impact organizations and developer communities to achieve more and drive the value of Microsoft?s intelligent cloud and intelligent edge technologies. How do we do it? We code with partners and customers every day. We work on the most challenging problems to accelerate and de-risk leading edge applications and solutions in partnership with customers and partners, startups and developer communities. We build trust as technical experts by coding side by side with them. We are hiring a Software Engineer to manage a team of engineers situated across the Americas. These engineers have deep experience and expertise designing and delivering commercially-competitive software using modern software engineering practices and cloud technologies. As a Software Engineering Manager you will be leading this team of developers & data people, assisting them with prioritization of projects driven by business need, and providing the technical guidance and inspiration they need to be successful. You will be both a manager and an engineer ? you?ll be using and constantly evolving your own coding & data skills while managing your team as they work on a variety of technical projects resulting in contributions to key OSS and internal frameworks. In this role, you would be responsible for: + Managing and growing teams of talented software engineers that develop and deploy highly visible, scalable, reliable, commercially viable solutions leveraging our cloud, working with top companies in the industry. + Driving the ongoing technical skills of your team by identifying and leading adoption of software engineering best practices and effective architectural approaches. Build the team?s software engineering reputation. + Driving digital transformation with key accounts and early phase technology adoption with customers and partners through deep ?build-with/coding? engagements, ranging from envisioning & design sessions, through proof of concept development to accelerating production deploymentments. + Developing and maintaining strong relationships, and engaging with technical audiences and influencers, through presence and active participation at Microsoft, third-party & community events. + Bring market/technology insights to product groups and engineering. **Qualifications** We often think we know the kind of person we are looking for, but invariably find that we hire an individual that doesn?t meet any specific definition. So please relax ? aside from being a coder, there?s no such thing as the ideal candidate for this role, and in this spirit, the list below is absolutely NOT a check list to be completed but simply a set of pictures we?re painting to give you an understanding of the role. + A passion for today?s and tomorrow?s technology for solving complex problems combined with experience leading software engineering teams and shipping commercially-competitive software or services. + Experience with any of the following: + Cloud Connectivity (eg IoT, Identity, Networking, Event Hub) + Cloud Scale complete (eg, IaaS, containers, service fabric, high performance computing) + High-scale data system (eg SQL/noSQL, cloud storage) + Machine learning / artificial intelligence + Mixed Reality & 3D + Demonstrated deep experience as a software developer using cloud computing technologies, and modern application development practice to deliver commercially viable software. + A passion for creating & managing a diverse culture of perspectives, personalities and technologies to respond to our customer needs and create high performing technical teams. + An established technical profile (social networks, blogging, GitHub contribution, published author, conference speaker, community organizer) + Strong business acumen to partner with other key leaders across Microsoft engineering, marketing, and sales teams to deliver on our platform priorities. + Great evangelism skills including public speaking at industry, partner, and community events. Able to communicate complex technical information clearly to people with or without a technical background. + Fluency in English and demonstrated ability to communicate concisely and effectively with other executives, employees, partners, and communities. + Be prepared to spend 40% of your time travelling within the US & Canada, with occasional travel in the rest of Amercias and worldwide.
