Responsible to utilize best practices to analyze and design components.Produce and review design drawings and specification documents. Proficient in CAD system tools (SolidWorks)Experience with electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical system designs and can build test beds to support early and long-term reliability developmentDesign, build, and execute testing of components or sub-systems. Document and present test plans to broader audience.Knows geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and Finite Element AnalysisAble to perform simulations of materials and properties and behaviors in static and dynamic systemsEstablish internal methods and best practices for the application of finite element analysis in various phases of product development.Design electronic enclosures, contoured housings/products, assembly fixtures, etc.Develop component and assembly specifications, and interface control drawingsBuild prototypes, develop and implement test plans, test fixtures, manufacturing fixtures, and work with QA and manufacturing personnel to put new designs into productionBuild prototypes using Rapid PrototypingWork closely with cross-functional teams to fully comprehend issue, gather information and communicates results.Contributes to team effort by accomplishing tasks within time standards, efficiently, as needed.Write reports summarizing results of design projectsDevelop product requirements and specification documents, manufacturing procedures, drawings and other documentation correctly/accurately.Takes ownership of all things mechanical from product conception to manufacturing.Leads small teams to develop concepts and mentors junior engineersEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRINGRequired Associate's degree required.Minimum 7 years of experience.Preferred Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline including strong coursework and/or research experience8 years of mechanical engineering experience3 years of electro-mechanical experienceHas experience in multitude of manufacturing processes using metals, plastics, adhesives, siliconesStrong knowledge and understanding of structural mechanics (e.g. fatigue analysis, nonlinear materials, crack initiation/propagation)5 or more years of SolidWorks experience or equivalent mastery through education or similar 3D CAD softwareComfortable with programming/scripting (python preferred)Experience in commercial, structural simulation packages such as ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Motion or related softwareExperience in fluidics simulation packages such as STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent or related softwareExperience in Multiphysics simulations (e.g. electromagnetism using ANSYS Maxwell, fluid-structure interaction, acoustics)Ability to summarize technical data and details into clear presentations illustrating key ideas to a non-technical audienceHas strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and be able to work closely with electrical, firmware and software engineers as interdisciplinary teamHas strong writing and verbal communication skills and can present design reviews for other engineers and managementWHAT WE OFFER At Abbott, you can have a good job that can grow into a great career.
