JOB TITLE: Home Instructor for the Instructional Extension for Parents as Educators Program




PAY GRADE: Paraprofessional 030 (176 days)


DEPARTMENT: State, Federal, & Parent Programs


PRIMARY PURPOSE: Conduct home visits to parents in the Irving ISD community to implement, conduct, and role play dedicated curriculum consisting of literacy, math, science, and language arts. The Home Visitation format will be in a hybrid format with a virtual modality.


* The IISD Academic extension program is subject to state and school district funding, therefore under these guidelines and requirements, the prospective applicant must fulfill all professional development and Program requirements. * Position is subject to the IISD Home Instruction requirements. * Academic Extension Home Instructors are required to follow the Home Visitation program implementation, weekly Role play training, and professional development requirements as directed by Coordinator * Possess a valid Texas class c driver's license and proof of insurance * Must have reliable transportation


Minimum Education:

* High School Diploma, GED * Early childhood training (Preferred but not required)

Special Knowledge/Skills

* Good oral expression, reading, and writing ability * Demonstrate potential for leadership * Organizational skills * Be comfortable visiting homes in the community * Ability to work in group settings and deal with conflict * Current or previous HIPPY parent or HPPY Instructor (preferred but not required) * Experience as a volunteer and service in and around the community (preferred but not required) * Bilingual preferred (Spanish or other languages)

Minimum Experience:

* Experience working with children/students or parents


* Participate in staff development as required by the Irving Independent School District, HIPPY USA, Texas HIPPY, for personal and professional growth. * Meet with assigned Home Instruction caseload of parents on a weekly basis, in the home or in the HIPPY office, or in a virtual format. Home instructor will use role-play as a technique to explain curriculum, learning goals, and academic target to parents. * Meet with coordinators on a weekly basis for training, report family progress and parent participation in the schools. * Maintain and update Home Visitation family files and enter information on to a designated web-based data tracking system. (IISD) * Enter and update home visit, parent meeting, and field trip attendance into web-based data tracking system * Participate in all regular Home Visitation sponsored activities (i.e. Field trips, End of Year celebrations, Recruitment events, TEXAS HIPPY Kick Off), etc. * Assist in the preparation, supervision of children, and clean up after monthly parent meetings as assigned by the coordinators * Work with HIPPY Coordinators and Parent Involvement Coordinators to increase parent involvement. * Refer appropriate families in need of information/assistance to the HIPPY Coordinator/Specialist for evaluation and social services referrals as needed. * Conduct recruitment of appropriate families in need of information/assistance to the Home Visitation extension program as directed by HIPPY Coordinator/Specialist as needed. * Assist in the office and other duties as requested by the coordinators.

EQUIPMENT USED: laptop computer, copier, telephone, iPad, MiFi, Mobile devices, web-based tools, communication and connectivity peripherals.


Physical Demands: light lifting, materials handling, transportation and delivery of curriculum, and other instructional materials.
