Job Scope and Purpose

The Digital Architect is a transformative role accountable for ensuring an optimal business strategy for leveraging current and emerging digital realities. The Digital Architect is responsible for the adoption of digital technologies and digital experiences across all business touchpoints.

The Digital Architect champions the use of information and technology in business model design, strategy and execution to create business success in all areas of user experience and operations. The Digital Architect will be primarily focused on the "to-be" architecture, along with publishing documentation across all Technology disciplines. This position includes three main roles: architect, designer, and specialist.

Main Responsibilities

As Architect

--- Achieving business goals by designing, building and maintaining high-caliber solutions according to standards, using the best technologies to meet the current and future needs of the organization.

--- Advising on technical solutions, standard integration methodologies, and alignment of the business and technology.

--- Preparing and distributing digital architectural visions, goals, standards, structures, behavior patterns, and models to all affected stakeholders.

--- Checking conformance to standards and architectural decisions. Resolving design and architectural conflicts by explaining and justifying design and architectural patterns.

--- Identifying technical risks and problems in design, implementation and at run-time.

--- Supervising designers and developers in terms of technology and design decisions.

--- Monitoring conformance to design standards and decisions during implementation.

As Designer

--- Identifying business and technical requirements.

--- Preparing technical plans for long-term development tasks, coding standards, integration requirements and features, dependencies and documentation.

--- Performing investigation and research for alternative solutions and technologies.

--- Resolving design issues and problems.

--- Responding to the changing environment in terms of demand and technology.

As Specialist

--- Advising on the subject of specialty by providing technical and methodological know-how, references and materials.

--- Resolving complex problems that have high-impact in terms of cost, effect and importance.

--- Supervising large implementations and deployment efforts and make sure each follows standards and best practices.

--- Performing assignments and tasks that require a deep and thorough understanding of the field of specialty.

--- Responding to requests for information or help from less experienced staff and coach them by sharing knowledge and experience; supplying references and materials for the field; redirecting people for more detailed and official standards and practices.

--- Writing recommendations, investigation reports, plans and roadmaps addressing strategies and future directions.

Primary Tasks

--- Digital Strategy

o Together with the CTO and other architects, work with executives to rollout and update the digital vision for business units, and identify the opportunities for differentiating and enhancing digital capabilities and solutions.

o Together with the CTO and other architects, lead the development of digital business strategy and road map, and ensure its integration with the enterprise strategic planning process. Provide a single point of coordination and oversight for all digital initiatives and transformation projects.

--- Analysis

o Assess external digital opportunities and threats as key inputs to making the best decisions on business strategy given digital realities.

o Lead the process to identify and evaluate internal digital asset capabilities and strengths.

--- Installation and Configuration

o Partner with other technology organizations to develop and exploit new digital business solutions to create a competitive edge for the enterprise. May also own and lead development teams and projects directly.

o Plan and implement future technology developments and undertake project work while maintaining balance between innovation and pragmatism when determining the practical application of new ideas.

o Ensure that the department develops the digital assets and capabilities the enterprise will need to survive and thrive in the midterm and long term.

--- Change Management

o Act as a champion and change asset in leading the organization changes required to create and sustain enterprise digital capabilities.

o Act as a thought leader on emerging digital business models and technologies, articulating the digital future and the enterprise's role in it internally and externally.

o Define and report on metrics that represent progress against digital goals.

o Build and maintain external relationships in academia, industrial bodies, vendors and technology analysts to learn and influence.

o Utilize technology areas of expertise to execute digital initiatives.

o Define a group wide innovation culture in partnership with People Solutions and other SMEs.

--- Enhance Digital Architect role

o Use understanding of digital technologies to develop new ideas and insights. Understand the abilities of digital technologies and translate them into new ideas and strategies for the organization.

o Rollout and enhance the digital business strategy and road map together with the CTO and other architects.

o Rollout and enhance the digital innovation program.

o Present designs and solutions to various stakeholders to obtain buy-in based on the defined strategy.

--- Communication

o Keep the digital vision for the enterprise updated and current, and identify the opportunities for differentiating digital capabilities and solutions.

o Keep the digital roadmap updated to deliver on the vision, taking into account the as-is architecture and ensure it is communicated to business and technology stakeholders.

o Define and deliver reports and metrics that represent progress against digital goals.

--- Activity Updates

o CTO: Updates on roadmap changes, implementation efforts and operational needs.

o Technology VPs: strategic input on existing and upcoming capabilities and progress and feedback on all development initiatives.

o Infrastructure: progress and change feedback.

o People Solutions: provide strategic input and required updates to governance and finance.

--- Project Work

o Accountable for all digital designs delivered as part of projects.

o Accountable for digital strategic imperatives outline for projects.

Required Skills

Experience

--- 10+ years experience, ideally in a matrix organization or agency.

--- 4+ years experience in information intensive industries or digitally advanced enterprises.

--- Business or entrepreneurial experience demonstrating a strong business acumen.

--- Experience in marketing a plus.

Education

--- B.S. or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Design

--- M.B.A. or business degree a plus

Skillset:

--- Expert level knowledge of current and emerging digital technologies.

--- Intimate understanding of Microsoft technologies, tools and environments.

--- Demonstrable ability to quickly understand and implement new technologies.

--- Proficiency with all primary database technologies, including RDBMS (SQL, Oracle, MySQL, IBM), NoSQL (Mongo, Document, Cassandra, Redis, etc.) and HDFS.

--- Familiarity with Microsoft's Cloud (Azure) or other cloud based services a plus.

--- Comfort and capability in object oriented, functional and procedural programming styles, along with the ability to fit them to technical requirements.

--- Experience at resource and planning level across multiple project management schemes, including Agile, Waterfall, Traditional, Adaptive, RUP and PERT.
